John Whelan, a native of England, grew up around Irish music. His exposure to the fiddle and pipe music led him to fall in love with the art form. At a young age, he won many accordion championships and later moved to America. He is known for performing with Riverdance next to fiddler Eileen Ivers. He has released numerous CD’s gaining him popularity and a devoted group of fans. More recently, Whelan contributed music to the soundtrack of BBC America’s “Copper”. His music exposes the new to the old and the old to the new.
